Melbourne: Crowne Plaza – Easy, Family Friendly Accommodation

We recently spent a very enjoyable 3 days during our recent trip to Melbourne at the lovely Crowne Plaza. We were lucky enough to experience the Family Getaway package which included breakfast and tickets to the Melbourne SeaLife Aquarium.

Crowne Plaza is great value in terms of quality of the room and location, it offers 4-star accommodation that is close to everything including the CBD, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, dining options and shops.

It’s such a convenient location for families with children as everything we wanted to see was just a quick trip by tram or foot, such a close walk to the CBD and located in the perfect part of the city to spend time discovering Melbourne’s Southbank. The free city circle trams made it so easy to get around and conveniently stopped opposite the Crown Plaza Melbourne.

We received a very warm greeting and all staff were very kind and attentive, the hotel rooms were well designed and comfortable they had nice décor and were functional with all the basic requirements well catered for.  The room was clean and spacious, plus the service both professional and friendly. The beds were very comfortable and we had a great view of the city.

We started our day with a sumptuous full buffet breakfast which was include in the family getaway package in the Clarendon Street Grill that over looks the iconic Yarra River. The kids loved the selection of hot dishes, pastries and even eggs made to order by the dedicated egg chef. We were very full and impressed with the high standard of food and service.

Then we were off to the Sealife Melbourne Aquarium. Situated right in the middle of the city, it is the perfect way to spend a pleasant few hours and we enjoyed the huge tank with massive stingrays, sharks and colourful tropical fish. The penguins are very entertaining and we enjoyed watching them as they were slipping, sliding and waddling. All of the staff we came across were well informed, very interesting and friendly and we learnt a lot during our visit and found heaps to keep us entertained for hours.

Overall, the Crowne Plaza gave us  great service and accommodation that is worth passing on to fellow travellers.  The friendly staff make sure you have a truly memorable stay, so if you are heading to Melbourne for business, shopping trip, or a family getaway I highly recommend staying at the Crown Plaza, which is family friendly and relaxing. This hotel has everything you need when visiting a new city with a family.

If you have any questions on the hotel or traveling please feel free to drop us a line as we would love to chat.

Love Kerry and Miss Piper xoxo

  1. We were very lucky to experience an afternoon with you all, and can I just say how accommodating the Crowne Plaza were. Nothing was too much trouble, it didn’t matter how many toddlers they had running around they were very willing to assist us. Made for a very enjoyable afternoon. Will definitely be back.

  2. Oh, I’m glad to have found this review! We are actually going to Melbourne at the end of the month to look at wedding venues. Everything looks great and sounds as if it’ll keep the kiddos occupied. And we definitely have plans to visit the aquarium, as we have some future marine biologists with us. 🙂 Thanks for the lovely pictures. Now I can’t wait to get there. 🙂

  3. We have also just had a lovely time visiting Melbourne. Loved the fact that you have a variety of options for transportation, ours was via tram, and that was a treat! 🙂 Loved all the different shops and restaurants. Will definitely be going back, and staying at the Crowne Plaza next time….. 🙂

    1. Tram was our favourite too Lucy, the fact that the tram is free on the city loop makes it even better! You will love Crowne Plaza enjoy

  4. As I had gone to the Crowne Plaza with my husband for a business conference, we found it to be a great place. Very professional, staff was helpful in a variety of ways. We actually made a reservation for our anniversary trip coming up in a few months.

  5. We were also lucky enough to experience an afternoon at Crowne plaza melbourne with a wonderful group of business owners and their babes! From the minute greeted at the lift I only experiences smiles and hellos by the Crowne team.. I instantly felt comfortable, which can be a rare thing at a hotel with a 1 year old. The room was lovely, the staff were so accomodating and I had a completely relaxed afternoon in a group with 6 children from ages 8-1 (5 of them were under 2) Ha when was the last time I said that!!!

  6. This was a nice weekend getaway for me and my fiancee. She enjoyed it tremendously. Will be going back for quick weekend getaways sporadically. Had a great time, and the price was right.

  7. I like the different promotions they have throughout the year for their customers….makes it a little easier to be able to splurge more. The food in the Grill is great, as stated in the blog. If going to Melbourne for any reason, be it business or pleasure, I also recommend staying at the Crowne Plaza.

    1. Thanks tinyteaspoon, such a lovely blog you have so looking forward to reading more. thanks for dropping us a line 🙂

  8. Oh, I’ve always wanted to stay at the Crowne Plaza! Thanks for sharing the review – it looks like so much fun. I love taking my daughter on girls weekends to the city – so will have to try to book one in when we get back from this trip!

  9. Hi Piper,
I read your post about your family stay at the Crowne Plaza in Melbourne.
    I’m staying there next week.
I was wondering if you could recommend any nice and cheap eats near the hotel around walking distance.
My mum is elderly and can’t walk far so I’m hoping there’s somewhere nearby that’s nice.

    Kind regards,
    Fong Truong

    1. Hi Fong,

There was a great cafe called ‘The Grain Store’ in Flinders lane – I think it’s only open during the day and doesn’t do dinner but food and coffee was amazing.

Then I like ‘The Merrywell’ it’s on the outside of the crown complex just a walk across the road, it’s very casual could be a bit loud for your mum but they do great burgers, ribs, fries, not fine dinning.

Flinders Lane across the road is just full of great cafes and restaurants I didn’t see one I wouldn’t want to eat at.

Getting around Melbourne we walked everywhere and found everything close but I would say it’s an easy walk for the elderly.

The hotel has ‘The Clarendon Street Grill’ we ate breakfast here daily and dinner one night it was very nice with a good selection and the service was excellent.

Hope that helps and you enjoy your trip please just let me know if you have any questions I would be happy to help.

      Safe Travels Kerry

  10. Hi Kerry,

Thanks so much for your advice.

If you know of any good asian restaurants near the Crowne Plaza that would be helpful too.

I might just explore on Flinder Street. I mainly cheap and tasty eats! The breakfast the Crowne Plaza looks so good but it’s a bit pricey for us.

I found a nice place on the internet for lunch call 5 & Dime Bagels.

Sorry for asking so many questions and thanks for helping me out so much.

The only other holiday I been to was Hamilton Island and that was easy because there was only 8 or so restaurants and they were all within a 5 minute walk.

If you do go to Hamilton Island let me know. I know all the good restaurants and things to do!

  11. Hi Fong,

No problem at all happy to help, We ate at Lucky Chan Restaurant @ Crown Casino we though it was delicious but it doesn’t seem to get very good reviews on trip adviser so I’m not sure if still as good any more. I’ll be sure to let you know if I go to Hamilton Island as its always good to know from someone who’s been.
