Hotel Jen Brisbane- Follow the voices

I have something different and very exciting to share with you all today! For the past month I have been working along side Hotel Jen Brisbane on a lovely little project called “Follow the voices”.

Follow the voices is made especially for travellers looking for a unique and fresh way to experience Brisbane (and other Hotel Jen destinations scattered across the world). I have picked out my favourite places in Brisbane that are out of the normal “touristy” list of things to see and do, giving travellers a more behind the scenes local experience of Brisbane. I really enjoyed being involved in this and can’t wait for you guys to read/ listen. Enjoy!

QPAC:

South Bank is a one of my favourite parts of Brisbane. It’s a stone’s throw away from the CBD and has always been an important part of the city’s beautifully rich history.

As a child, coming to South Bank meant going on an adventure and getting on the train to head into the city was something I really looked forward to. Today it’s even better. There are so many exciting things to do and places to explore. From theatres and science centres to a giant observation wheel and a giant man-made lagoon.

Just as it was when I was a kid, the best way to get around South Bank is on foot. There’s also the city glider, a free bus provided by the city council that takes you on a mini tour of Brisbane. It’s a life saver when you’re travelling with kids – the giant sugar glider picture on the side is pretty cute too.

You can’t miss the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in South Bank. The complex has a stunning modern design and houses a total of 4 different theatres as well as fantastic restaurants and bars. I love the spacious outdoor sitting area just down from the venue where from time to time they will have live music in the area. One time when I was there with the kids we saw a possum in the trees above so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for some of Australia’s local wildlife.

Southbank Parkland:

Just a short meander away from the QPAC is one of my all-time favourite things to do in South Bank – a walk through the beautiful bougainvillea arbour. The magenta blossoms are in season all year round making this a gorgeous place to sit, relax and take a few colourful photos.

Science centre:

Just around the corner from the bougainvillea harbour is the Sciencentre. A playground for kids and adults alike, it’s an extremely fun and informative place packed with activities everyone will enjoy. Every time I go, I learn something new. Just upstairs you’ll also find the museum and a few minutes walk away is Brisbane’s amazing Gallery of Modern Art.

Streets Beach:

The crowning jewel of South Bank is the amazing Streets Beach. It is Australia’s only inner-city, man-made beach and it boasts a stunning lagoon surrounded by white sandy beaches and gorgeous tropical plants. What makes this gorgeous riverside spot even better is the fact that it’s in the middle of South Bank Parklands! So you can bring some food and have a good old fashioned picnic after your swim or order UberEats and try some of the local food in surrounding cafes and restaurants.

Cineplex Southbank:

The last stop on my list is the Cineplex South Bank. It’s the perfect place to escape the tropical heat (or rain), with really affordable tickets making it a great way to treat the whole family. There’s a hidden gem of a sushi bar near the theatre that I love to visit, great food and the staff are always so polite, helpful and super speedy with getting your meal to you.

I have fantastic memories of South Bank from my own childhood and bring my family here as often as possible to spend time together. And best of all, from South Bank it is only a short 10 minute walk back over the bridge to the Hotel Jen on Roma Street.
